Elif Nur Birer

I have been in Canada for 10 months. When I came to Canada, I had some concerns about learning English. I knew it was going to be tough. In the beginning, I was afraid of talking or communicating with people. At that time, I only used to know base expressions such as ‘how are you?’  ‘what is your name?’ and ‘how old are you?’. (grammar?) I thought I was never going to be able to learn English. When I started studying, I cried almost every day. Some of my classmates were be able to speak English but i was not able to. I used to remember myself telling my brother told me that I can do it.

My biggest problem was the self-confidence. I had no confidence until I was at the Intermediate B class. I had lots of friend afterwards. We have spent quite time together. Now, I believe that I have a self-confidence and I also got used to the city. In 7 months, I learned how to speak clearly, how to write a paragraph and so on.

Finally, I started to talk. I felt like I was improved. I’m still making mistakes but I will keep improving my English skills that reminds me this wonderful expression by Theodore Roosevelt;

“Believing is half of success. If you want to build your success story, first thing you should do is to believe in it. Believe, implement, succeed.”

CCI-LEX I thank you for everything and thanks for your helpful and smiley face!
