Before you start, a few notes about our curriculum:
- It is intended for beginner learners (CLB levels PB-2)
- You will need the the following materials to implement the curriculum fully:
- Ventures 1 textbook series (student book, teacher edition and workbook)
- The Oxford Picture Dictionary (Canadian Edition and workbook)
- Various publications from Success In TESL
- Depending on funding, some workshop participants may be eligible to receive free copies of the textbooks.
- You are welcome to download, share, modify and copy any of the materials posted on this website (below) for non-commercial educational purposes.

- Norquest College’s Rural Routes Program: A lot of very good, local, interesting information for ESL instructors. Browse and learn!
LISTENING
- English Central: Watch short videos and complete exercises related to the videos online.
- Randall’s Cyber Listening Lab: Listen to recordings and complete quizzes online.
PRONUNCIATION
- Otterwave: an iPhone/iPad app that allows learners to record themselves repeating sentences and provides feedback.
READING
- Bow Valley College Literacy Readers: A collection of forty theme-based readers, along with an instructors guide.
- Grassroots Press Photostories: Great collection of interesting, low level readers by a local Edmonton publisher. Must be purchased.
