Xafsa has a plan set in her mind: first, she is going to study English, then she will go on to further schooling and academic studies, and then, her goal is to become a policewoman. To get there, she has been studying English at CCI-LEX, knowing that learning the language is key to her future.
A year ago, Xafsa arrived at Toronto airport. At the time, she knew a couple of things about Canada, like how important hockey is here, and how Canadians are so kind and nice; and although she did not know too much about the country, she came with a positive mindset, ready to make her life in Canada as good as she imagined.
Last term, she successfully completed the low-beginner level at CCI-LEX, and now she is a beginner-level student who loves to read inside and outside the classroom. “I love reading, and books, book clubs. Sometimes I go to the library to read books.” At home, she practices her conversation skills with her brothers and sisters and watches movies in English to improve her listening skills.
Outside of the classroom, Xafsa also enjoys the volunteer activities at CCI-LEX, like helping to prepare the food hampers at the Food Bank. For her, it’s another step toward the career she dreams of, helping the community.
Coming here has been a big change, but with her family by her side, she knows that she can thrive here. “I feel good, happy and healthy. Canada is a good country.” We are sure Xafsa will be successful in everything she does because we can see her passion in every class, her love for helping people in every volunteer activity she attends, and her lovely personality in every smile!
