The most important thing in Rudy’s life is his family, and that is what brought him to Edmonton. Back in Nicaragua, a country in Central America, he and his family thought about his future and the opportunities they all dreamed of for him. Even though he was a practicing physician in Nicaragua, together they concluded that Canada could offer him a brighter future.
Rudy is lucky to have family living in Edmonton, and that is why he chose to move here in 2022 and start his life and career from scratch. Without English and uncertain of his ability to practice medicine again, Rudy began his English classes at CCI-LEX in 2023. He has worked in different places and industries since arriving, but has never lost his focus: to become a certified doctor in Canada.
Being a goal-motivated person Rudy has dedicated all his time to achieving his goals. His first career milestone was getting a physician’s assistant position five months ago (amazing!), and as for the language, Rudy will finish the CCI Advanced evening program this term. “I feel happy and proud of myself. It has been almost two years of taking classes every Tuesday and Thursday after my work, I did my best to be here, even if I was tired or if it was wintertime, I did my best during my English classes”.
Being a student at CCI-LEX has been a very important part of his success, the language skills he has acquired has helped him during job application and interview processes, and most recently it has been the key to understanding the medical material he has to study. It sounds like 2025 will be quite a year in Rudy’s life, as aside from his English classes, he is also studying to take his medical tests and reach his goal of practicing as a family doctor.
“What is always on my mind about this school is how every teacher has been so welcoming, every term I’ve had different teachers and each of them has made me feel welcome in their classes, not only they have shared their knowledge with me, but they also have been understanding […] this is something I value so much about the classes and the school”.
Although we will miss seeing Rudy every Tuesday and Thursday, we are sure his discipline will take him far in life – but hopefully not far from CCI-LEX!
